Evans Lumber Company was founded in 1929 by Walter Augustus "Gus" Evans. Located on its present site for over 70 years, Evans has provided building services and materials to its customers in the Kanawha Valley.
During the 1930's until the early 1940's Evans operated a sawmill at the site of it's present retail operations. In 1940 the sawmill operation was moved up the Elk River to a location 30 miles from South Charleston. For almost 50 years we timbered the surrounding counties, providing local housing with the finest West Virginia hardwood products. We continue to find local sources of fine hardwood from our local neighbors.
In the bottom pictures you can see a "sawyer" operating at our sawmill during the 1950's. The second picture shows one of our stockpiles of logs ready for sawing. The last picture is of some of the finished products being loaded for delivery. |
