December 2001 Warren White retired from Evans Lumber after 58 years.
Warren started working for Evans Lumber on July 15th 1943 and has been a constant fixture at Evans Lumber for longer than most customers or employees can remember. Warren started with Evans in our sawmill operations on Elk River 10 miles above Clendenin. Warren worked at every job in in our sawmill eventually becoming the foreman over sawmill operations. In the photo below Warren can be seen on the right operating the saw carriage for the sawmill. Later, Warren came to our main store in South Charleston to become our Shop and Yard foreman. It was here that Warren was able to use all the valuble experience about lumber and timber in our shop operations. Rather it was a simple plywood circle for a customer or a more intricate door or window project for a contractor, Warren figured out how to produce the project for our customers. Warren has helped thousands of customers over his 58 years and his pleasant personally and extensive knowledge will be missed by all those customers he has helped.
Warren is now enjoying spending time with his wife Mary, traveling to North Carolina to fish, hunting, golf and believe it or not working in his own woodworking shop for pleasure. Warren was 80 years old when he retired but had the energy and attitude of a 30 year old. We wish Warren many years of hunting, fishing and golf we will miss him. |
