Evans receives many unusual requests for projects to be made in our shop. One of the recent projects involved reproducing a bell wheel for a local historic church. The bell wheel was attached to the bell located in the bell tower and it had dry rotted. The bell wheel was estimated to be over 100 years old. The wheel had to be made in our shop, dismantled, hoisted to the top of the bell tower and reassembled.
In the photo to the right, Tom Atkinson, an employee of Evans Lumber, prepares to hoist half of the bell wheel up the bell tower at Kanawha United Presbyterian Church. Once it was through the small opening, the wheel portion was bolted together with the other half.
